Sneha upsets Vithya Ramraj; double delight for Animesh
Kerala’s K. Sneha clocked her personal best to upset international R. Vithya Ramraj (Tamil Nadu) in the women’s 200m race in the Indian Grand Prix series-2 at the LNCPE Athletics Stadium on Saturday.
Before this race, Sneha had never completed a 200m sprint under 24 seconds, with her previous best standing at 24.01s. However, the Kerala athlete delivered a breakthrough performance at this competition.
Despite a slow start, she surged ahead around the 150m mark and powered past Vithya Ramraj to clock an impressive 23.59s. Meanwhile, Vithya secured second place (23.72s), while Angel Silviam finished third (23.87s).
Other Track Highlights
In contrast to the tight 200m finish, Vithya dominated her specialty event. The 400m hurdles saw her claim gold effortlessly with a time of 57.45s.
Similarly exciting, the women’s 100m hurdles ended in a photo finish. Although both athletes clocked identical 13.27s, Tamil Nadu’s Nithya Ramraj edged out Odisha’s Pragyan Prasanti for gold.

Champions Shine at National Athletics Meet
While many athletes competed fiercely, Animesh Kujur (Odisha) stood out by not only winning the men’s 100m (10.31s) but also dominating the 200m (20.55s) effortlessly. Similarly impressive, Rajesh Ramesh (Tamil Nadu) made a spectacular comeback after his injury, first taking the lead after the initial curve and then extending it to win the 400m in 45.77s – well ahead of Jay Kumar (46.53s) and Rince Joseph (45.72s).
