A heavy downpour in Dehradun caused a cloudburst that swept away vehicles and stores, leading to the disappearance of two individuals. Rescue teams are on the scene to locate and save the missing individuals.
Two individuals disappeared as intense rainfall caused a cloudburst in Dehradun early Tuesday, damaging homes and sweeping away vehicles and businesses.
The cloudburst happened late at night and relocated the impacted individuals to safer locations. Search and aid efforts continue to locate the two individuals who are unaccounted for.
Upon hearing about the incident, District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumkum Joshi, and other officials hurried to the location to determine the extent of the damage. He ordered the rescue teams to locate and save the two missing individuals as soon as possible.
Officials from the NDRF, SDRF, PWD, and other agencies are actively working with bulldozers at the location.
All educational institutions from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun are presently closed due to the intense rainfall and cloudburst, as per an order issued by the District Magistrate.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that he remained in regular communication with the local administration and overseeing the situation.
“Several stores sustained damage from the heavy rainfall in Sahastra Dhara, Dehradun, late last night.” The district administration, SDRF, and police have arrived at the location and are involved in rescue and relief efforts. “I regularly communicate with the local authorities on this matter and am personally overseeing the situation,” he tweeted in Hindi.
Multiple regions in Dehradun, such as IT Park and Prem Nagar, experienced flooding due to intense rainfall. The severe weather also harmed a bridge on the Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway.
